Guatemalan Companies, Main Buyers
From January to June 2019, the main importer of aluminum and its manufactures in the region was Guatemala with $80 million, followed by Costa Rica with $60 million, Panama with $51 million, El Salvador with $46 million, Honduras with $36 million and Nicaragua with $20 million.

Main Sellers
During the first six months of 2019, 24% of the value imported by Central America came from China, 11% from the USA, 6% from Mexico, 6% from Belgium and 3% from Brazil.

For the period from January to June of the last eight years, China is the market of origin of purchases that has grown the most, since in 2012 it represented 11% of the total value of regional purchases, and in 2019 that proportion rose to 24%.

Regional Business Upwards
Between the first semester of 2018 and the same period in 2019, the volume of aluminum imports and its manufactures dropped by 22%, from 98 thousand ton to 76 thousand ton.

For the periods in question, the value imported also registered a drop, in this case of 2%, from $299 million in 2018 to $294 million in 2019.

Regional Aluminum Imports Up 8%

May 2018

Last year the region bought $618 million worth of aluminum and its manufactures from abroad, 8% more than in 2016, and 17% of imports came from the US.
