Animal Feed: Purchases Still Down

Costa Rica, Main buyer
From January to June 2019, the largest importer of animal feed preparations in Central America was Costa Rica, with $51 million, followed by Panama with $45 million, Honduras with $43 million, Guatemala with $37 million, El Salvador with $26 million and Nicaragua with $17 million.

Central American Business Still Falling
Between the first half of 2018 and the same period in 2019, the volume imported of preparations for animal feed registered a 13% decrease, falling from 206,000 tons to 179,000 tons. Imported value also decreased considerably from $254 million to $218 million.

In the case of purchases from Mexico, for the periods in question the value imported fell 4%, growing from $43.5 million to $41.9 million.

Origin of Imports
In the first six months of 2019, 21% of the value imported from Central America came from the USA, 19% from Mexico, 4% from Peru, 3% from Spain and 2% from Ecuador.
