Imports by country 
In 2017, the main buyer of alcoholic beverages in Central America was Panama, with $78 million, followed by Costa Rica, with $74 million, Guatemala, with $73 million, Honduras, with $57 million, El Salvador, with $38 million and Nicaragua, with $14 million. 

Variation of regional imports 
Between 2016 and 2017 the value imported into the region increased by 3%, increasing from $325 million to $334 million. This increase confirms the upward trend in imports reported for in the last five years, as from 2013 to 2017 purchases grew at an annual average of 6%.

For the years in question, imports from Mexico increased by 8%, as purchases in the North American country increased from $67 million to $72 million.

Origin of imports 
In 2017, 22% of the value imported into the region came from Mexico, 20% from the United States, 10% from the United Kingdom and 7% from Chile.

Mexico is the origin market for imports that has grown the most, as in 2012 it represented 13% of total regional purchases and in 2017 this figure reached 22%.

Beer: Imports Increase 45%

November 2018

Because of the purchase behavior from Mexico, during the first half of the year, beer imports in Central America totaled $83 million, 45% more than in the same period in 2017.

Alcoholic beverages: Imports increase 25%

October 2018

During the first three months of the year, the countries of the region reported imports of alcoholic beverages for $88 million, 25% more than what was reported in the same quarter of 2017.
