$38 Million Airport Works Contract Awarded

The Mexican company Caabsa Constructora will be in charge of the expansion of the passenger terminal at Monsenor Óscar Romero international airport in El Salvador.

Wednesday, April 25, 2018

The award was announced by the Autonomous Port Executive Commission (CEPA) at a press conference held at the Presidential House in San Salvador.

For his part, Nelson Vanegas, president of the CEPA, explained to Elmundo.sv that " ... the expansion of the airport is in addition to other works being carried out at the terminal - which already receives more than three million passengers a year - such as 'the four remote waiting rooms that we inaugurated in October, the newly inaugurated vehicular parking and expansion of the commercial and office area, which will be ready in 2018'."

The awarded extension consists in the construction of a new building on three levels, which will contain 5 modern boarding gates with their respective boarding bridges and waiting rooms, as well as circulation corridors and spaces for commercial areas on the second and third levels.

There will be a security inspection area for passengers traveling on connections through the Hub and a migration check, implementing the concept of segregation of passengers, this area being located on the third level of the building. Finally, on the first level there will be vehicular traffic lanes and areas for renting to concessionaires, with the three levels together amounting to a surface area of 21,673.00 m2 of construction.

Included in the project is construction of spaces in the public area for the welcome lobby on the main facade of the building, with an area of 1,543.00 m2. The services of potable water, sewage, electricity, fire-fighting network, will be connected to the connections that are currently being executed as part of the external works construction projects for the expansion of the airport."
