Air Transport: El Salvador Prepares for Reactivation

After authorities submitted the biosecurity protocols, the Oscar Romero International Airport is scheduled to resume operations on September 4.

The plan of the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA) is that as of Friday September 4, the skies of El Salvador will be open for connecting flights and as of September 19 for commercial passenger flights.

August 17th, 2020. The Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA), through our head Federico Anliker, officially presented the Biosafety Protocol for the gradual and orderly reopening of operations at El Salvador's International Airport, "San Oscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdamez."

"We are ready to resume connectivity with the world. As of Friday, September 4, the skies of El Salvador will be open for connecting flights and as of September 19 for commercial passenger flights," said Federico Anliker during his speech.

Our head explained that the protocol, which was endorsed by the Ministry of Health and the Civil Aviation Authority, contemplates the "obligatory use of masks for all those who enter our airport and signaling the entire terminal for the physical distance of two meters.

In addition, he commented that "protective screens were installed at the service points, 2 thermographic cameras to scan the body temperature of the people, a video surveillance system to detect crowds in the different areas of the airport, hygiene and disinfection processes in the public use areas after each flight bank."

As a temporary measure, the waiting rooms will be reduced to 50% capacity and public areas such as Plaza de La Bondad will be closed; farewell areas and the food court will be closed. These areas will be gradually rehabilitated according to the assessments made by the Ministry of Health regarding the pandemic.

Airport Closed Until April 19th

In El Salvador, authorities decided that commercial flights at the Oscar Romero International Airport will be suspended for the next three weeks due to the health alert the country is facing.

The decision was announced by the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA), and details that this is part of the compliance with the state of emergency and Executive Decree No. 12, due to the covid-19 pandemic.
