Variation of imports 
Between the first three months of 2017 and the same period in 2018 the import value of air conditioning equipment registered a drop of 16%, decreasing from $11.6 million to $9.8 million.

For the periods in question, the value imported from China reported a 15% decrease, going from $4.6 million to $3.9 million, and from the US it fell by 24%, decreasing from $4.9 million to $3.7 million.

Origin of imports 
During the first quarter of 2018, 40% of the value imported from Costa Rica came from China, 38% from the USA, 4% from Japan, 3% from Spain and 3% from Panama.

China is the market of origin of imports that has grown the most in the first quarter of the last seven years. In 2012 it represented 26% of the total import value, and this year the figure reached 40%.

From January to September 2017, companies in Panama imported $52 million worth of air conditioning equipment, and imports from China grew by 52%.
