Air Conditioning Equipment: $147 Million in Purchases

In 2020, companies in the region bought abroad air conditioning equipment for $147 million, with Nicaragua being the only Central American market that in year-on-year terms increased its imports.

Costa Rica and Panama, Main Importers
During last year the main buyer of air conditioning equipment in Central America was Costa Rica, with $ 38 million, followed by Panama, with $ 35 million, Honduras, with $ 29 million, El Salvador, with $ 17 million, Guatemala, with $ 16 million and Nicaragua, with $ 12 million.

In the case of the year-on-year variation of purchases, in 2020 Nicaragua recorded a 2% year-on-year increase. Costa Rica reported a 2% drop in imports, El Salvador reduced its purchases by 6%, Honduras decreased them by 28%, Guatemala reduced them by 36% and Panama's purchases dropped by 45%.

Variation in Regional Imports
Between 2019 and 2020, the value of imports fell by 25%, from $196 million to $147 million.

In contrast to the general behavior of imports, for the periods in question, purchases from Spain went from $800 thousand to $1.2 million.

Main Suppliers to the Central American Market
During 2020, 49% of the value imported from Central America came from China, 23% from the USA, 3% from South Korea, 3% from Mexico and 2% from Thailand.

China is the country of origin of Central American imports that has grown the most in recent years, since in 2012 it accounted for 22% of the total value purchased and in 2020 it rose to 49%.

Note:
This analysis was carried out considering machines and devices for air conditioning suitable for modifying temperatures and moisture adjustable to walls, windows, floors or ceilings, vehicles, and the respective parts of the equipment.

Air Conditioning: Honduras, the Fastest-Growing Market

February 2020

From January to September 2019, companies in the region bought air conditioning equipment abroad for $138 million, and imports by Honduran companies increased 22% compared to the same period in 2018.

Air Conditioning: Import Falls 8% at Closing 2018

June 2019

During 2018, companies in Central America imported $191 million in air conditioning equipment, 8% less than reported the previous year.
