Bottled Water: Business Figures up to September 2018

In the first nine months, imports of bottled water into Central America totaled $17.5 million, and 53% of the value imported was from the United States.

Panamanian companies, main buyers
From January to September 2018, the main importer of bottled water in Central America was Panama, with $8 million, followed by El Salvador, with $3 million. Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua each reported purchases of close to two million dollars.

Variation in regional business
Between January and September 2017 and the same period in 2018, the value of imported bottled water in Central America registered a slight negative variation, dropping from $18 million to $17.5 million.

U.S. main seller
In the first nine months of 2018, 53% of the value imported into the region was from the U.S., 7% from Italy, 7% from France, 2% from Mexico and 2% from Spain.

The U.S. is the market origin of imports that has grown the most between January and September of the last seven years, since in 2012 it represented 32% of total Central American purchases and this year that proportion rose to 53%.

Alcoholic Beverages: Import up 23%

April 2019

From January to September 2018, Central American companies imported $269 million in alcoholic beverages, 23% more than in the same period in 2017, mainly because of purchases from Mexico.

During the first six months of the year, imports of bottled water in Central America totaled $12.4 million, and purchases from the U.S. reported a fall of 4% with respect to the same period in 2017.
