In 2017, the total import value of insecticides, herbicides and fungicides in Central American countries totaled $689 million, registering a 3% increase with respect to 2016.

Variation of regional imports 
Between 2016 and 2017 the import value of insecticides, herbicides and fungicides in Central America rose by 3%, rising from $668 million in 2016 to $689 million in 2017. 

Over the last two years the purchase value grew at an average annual rate of 4%, recovering the upward trend that was lost in 2015, when a fall of 2% was registered.

Imports by country 
In 2017, the main buyer in Central America was Guatemala with $170 million, followed by Costa Rica with $159 million, Nicaragua with $110 million, Honduras with $100 million, Panama with $95 million and El Salvador with $54 million. 

Origin of Central American imports
In 2016, 15% of the value imported from Central America came from China, 14% from the USA, 10% from Mexico, 9% from Colombia and 4% from Germany.

China is the market origin of imports that has grown the most in recent years, as in 2012 it represented 9% of total purchases, and in 2017 this figure reached 15%.

From January to June of this year, countries in the region imported insecticides, herbicides and fungicides for $343 million, 2% more than in the same period in 2017.
