Main importers
Among the main importers in the region in 2016 and according to the value of purchases are Basf from Costa Rica, Dicarina from Panama, Quatroagro from Guatemala, Bayer Costa Rica and Dow Agrosciences from Costa Rica.

Variation of regional imports 
Between 2015 and 2016, the total import volume of insecticides, herbicides and fungicides in Central America grew by 5%, rising from 146 thousand tons equivalent to 632 million tons in 2015, to 153 thousand tons equivalent to 668 million tons in 2016. 

Imports by country 
In 2016 the main buyer by imported volume of insecticides, herbicides and fungicides in Central America was Panama with 34 thousand tons, followed by Costa Rica with 32 thousand tons, Guatemala with 28 thousand tons, Nicaragua with 23 thousand tons, Honduras with 21 thousand tons, and El Salvador with 13 thousand tons. 

Origin of Central American imports
In 2016, 19% of the volume imported from Central America came from China, 11% from the USA, 11% from Mexico, 7% from Colombia and 2% from Belgium.

From January to March of this year, countries in the region imported $146 million worth of insecticides, herbicides and fungicides, 6% more than in the same period in 2017.
