Agrochemicals: $530 Million in Regional Purchases

From January to September 2018, countries in the region imported $530 million worth of insecticides, herbicides and fungicides, and 46% were bought by companies in Guatemala and Costa Rica.

Guatemalan Companies, Main Buyers
In the first nine months of 2018 the main buyer in Central America was Guatemala with $125 million, followed by Costa Rica with $117 million, Panama with $79 million, Nicaragua with $76 million, Honduras with $75 million and El Salvador with $49 million.

Origin of Central American imports
From January to September 2018, 16% of the value imported from Central America came from China, 14% from the U.S., 10% from Mexico, 9% from Colombia and 3% from Germany.

China is the market origin of imports that has grown the most for the months concerned in recent years, since in 2012 represented 10% of total purchases, and in 2018 reached 16%.

Variation in regional imports
Between the first nine months of 2017 and the same period of 2018 the imported value registered a slight decrease of 1%, dropping from $534 million to $530 million.

From January to March of this year, countries in the region imported $146 million worth of insecticides, herbicides and fungicides, 6% more than in the same period in 2017.

Agrochemicals in Central America: Purchases Up 3%

In 2017, the total import value of insecticides, herbicides and fungicides in Central American countries totaled $689 million, registering a 3% increase with respect to 2016.
