This report was coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Trade (COMEX) and PROCOMER, with the support of the Costa Rica-United States Foundation for Cooperation (CRUSA), PROCOMER reported in a statement.

Victor Umaña, general coordinator of Negotiations, Implementation of Trade Agreements and Investment of COMEX, told that "... Coconut derivatives and those processed from meat, have high market potential, while shrimp farming is an activity that is being rescued, since it was abandoned. The studies indicate that sea bass has a large potential market, both local and international."

Umaña added that "... in the plan for new crops is estimated a great potential for cassava, as a study has already discovered the possibilities for 15 derivatives of that root, while goat milk is made products of personal care, among others."

These proposals are presented in a context of slight recovery of agricultural production, since in August and September the monthly index of agricultural activity in Costa Rica reported year-on-year rises of 0.16% and 0.82%, respectively, thus reversing the downward trend recorded in previous months.
