Economic Activity Up 3% in 2019

At the end of 2019, economic activity in Guatemala grew 3%, behavior that was explained in part by the performance of the commercial and construction sectors.

From the Bank of Guatemala report:

During December 2019 the economic activity measured by the IMAE estimate, registered a 3.1% growth rate with respect to December 2018 (2.2%).

This behavior was explained by the positive result mainly experienced by the economic activities of Commerce and vehicle repair; Construction; Real estate activities; Financial and insurance activities; and Agriculture, livestock, forestry and fishing, which had a greater influence on the growth rate of the total IMAE.

On the other hand, the series of the trend cycle registered a 3.9% year-on-year growth rate, a more dynamic result than the registered in December of the previous year.

The economic activity measured by the estimation of the IMAE, in August 2019, showed a 3.7% growth rate, variation that is slightly lower compared to the 3.8% registered in the eighth month of 2018, explains the report of the Banco de Guatemala.

Services and Industry Boost Economic Activity

August 2019

In Guatemala, the Economic Activity Index registered year-on-year growth of 3.1% in June, explained in part by the variations of Private Services and Manufacturing Industries.

According to the report of the Banco de Guatemala the economic activity measured by the estimation of the IMAE, reported a deceleration in June 2019, since it registered a 3.1% growth rate, increase that is lower to the variation of 3.5% reported in May of this year.

Guatemala: Economic Activity Accelerates

February 2019

After recording at the end of 2017, a 2.6% year-on-year increase in economic activity, in December last year the IMAE closed a 3.3% increase.

The most recent figures estimated by the Bank of Guatemala (Banguat) specify that between November and December last year, economic activity registered a 5.7% increase.
