A Sole Bidder for Municipal Building in Panama

The construction of the new headquarters building of the municipality Colon has been awarded to the sole bidder for $16.5 million.

Prensa.com reports that "for an amount of $16.5 million the award was made to the only firm who submitted a bid, Omega Engineering Inc., for the planned construction of the new city hall in the province of Colon."

According to Damaso Garcia, mayor of the district, the project will include the study, design, demolition of the old headquarters, building, equipping and delivery of final plans.

José Mandaracas, resident engineer, said the work will be ready in 24 months.

With an $18 million loan the mayor of Panama will buy 11 farms in the district in order to construct a city park, a cemetery and municipal offices in 2017.

From a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry of Panama:

With 21 votes in favor and 1 against, the City Council gave approval in Ordinary Session No.39, on Tuesday 27 September, for the Mayor of Panama to take out with the National Bank of Panama, a loan in the amount of 18 million for the purchase of 11 farms located in the District of Panama.

Panama's Historic City Hall Budget

December 2011

With $115 million, Panama City will have for next year, the largest budget in its history.

For the first time the town of Panama City will have available $115 million for investment and maintenance works during 2012.

The budget, which is $23 million more than that of 2011, includes improvements to parks, renovation works at the Marañón gym, and the creation of a television channel, among other things.
