90% of Guatemalan Companies Would Rise Salaries in 2011

According to the latest salary survey of PWC, 90% of the surveyed companies plan to increase salaries in 2011.

Among the companies planning increases, the average pay rise will be 7.4%. The sectors where salaries will be most increased are hospitality (10%), technology (9.1%), retail l(9.0%), manufacture (8.3%), services (8.2%), agro industry (8.1%) and industry (8.0%).

Roberto Monge, consultant at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC), commented that several variables indicate that employment is recovering. The percentage of companies planning salary increases is higher now than in May 2009, there are now less planned layoffs, and there are less frozen job positions.

“Monge considers that one or two more years are needed to recover the employment levels the country had before the crisis. Other indicators show that the worst of the crisis is over”.

Executive Salaries Increase in Guatemala

According to a PricewaterhouseCoopers survey, from January to October 2010 the average annual compensation increased 8.1%.

Of the 501 companies surveyed, 65% granted salary increases to their executives.

Of the 150 companies surveyed, 41% are planning to make wage increases by an average of 8.6%.

Almost all Guatemalan companies plan to increase the salaries of their managers next year, despite the international financial crisis.
