864 Video Surveillance Cameras in Panama

The installation process began in 2007 and the current total is 564 cameras throughout the country. There will now be 300 new cameras installed.

The video surveillance camera project developed by the National Police in partnership with Cable & Wireless has required an investment of over $7.3 million.

As part of the second phase of the project launched in December 2007, 300 new cameras will be put into service, of which 255 will be installed in the capital city, and 45 will be distributed in other cities, according to an article in Prensa.com.

El Salvador to Tender Video Surveillance System

The mayoral office of San Salvador has announced it will be investing $15 million in the installation of a video surveillance system to complement the 500 cameras already operating in the capital.

Although the initiative of the mayoral office has been criticized by some sectors, Mayor Najib Bukele stated that the bidding process will be transparent and will be supervised by the Attorney General.

The mayoral office of Panama is inviting bids for the adaptation, design and equipment of facilities for an operating center for citizen security in Panama City.

February 2010

The Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) and the Security Ministry have invited bids for supplying 342 security cameras.

Called “Citizen Video Protection” (“Video Protección Ciudadana”), the Project includes installing 342 security cameras in the provinces of San José, Limón, Alajuela and Heredia, to assist in surveillance tasks.

The 48 CCTV cameras that are being installed in Colón will be complemented with foot, bicycle and motor patrols by police.

The proposed installation of security cameras, which is part of the crime prevention program in the Colón region, is being funded by Cable & Wireless in partnership with the Colón Free Trade Zone administration.
