$85 Million to Handle Emergencies in Guatemala

“The resources might only be used after a national emergency declaration or a in a state of Public Calamity. Both scenarios require a Presidential decree ratified by Congress”, reported Prensalibre.com.

The loan was subscribed with the Inter-American Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and was ratified by the Guatemalan Congress today.

World Bank Disburses $50 million to El Salvador

Panama will strengthen its risk management with the help of a U.S. $ 100 million Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) loan.

Honduras: $ 27 Million for Disaster Prevention

The Spanish government approved the grant for $ 27.4 million.

These funds will be used to enhance capabilities to face natural disasters.

The donation will be used to finance the modernization of equipment for environmental monitoring and civil protection.

"The goal is to strengthen the country´s capacities to cope with natural disasters and environmental accidents," La Tribuna de Honduras published on its website.

$ 14 Million for Disaster Prevention

The EU will fund 22 projects for disaster preparedness in CA.

Among other aspects, the programs allow work on emergency infrastructure support, development of risk maps and early warning systems.

The head of the Disaster Preparedness Programme of the European Union in Central America (Dipecho), France's Virginie André, told EFE that "The Dipecho operations will be conducted in six Central American countries, where 19 national projects and 3 regional projects will be financed... There are six (projects) in Nicaragua, five in El Salvador, four in Honduras, four in Guatemala and three at regional level."
