$6 Million WiMAX contract awarded by Costa Rica's ICE

Alvarion, a provider of WiMAX and wireless broadband solutions, announced that it was awarded a $6 million contract by Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad.

Under the terms of the agreement Alvarion will implement a turnkey project to provide advanced broadband services, deploying its 4Motion solution with its WiMAX Forum Certified BreezeMAX 2500 platform, and enabling ICE to enhance its network performance while providing customers with advanced means of communication.

Samsung to Offer WiMAX in Nicaragua

In alliance with partner company Yota, Samsung Electronics will offer mobile Internet in the country starting May 2010.

Russian corporation Yota won the public bidding process to supply Nicaragua with WiMAX telecommunications services.

Costarican ICE awards $12.5 million WiMAX contract

Airspan Networks announced that ICE has awarded Airspan Networks a follow-on order worth approximately $12.5 million through its local partner, Datatell.

ICE, Costa Rica's largest telecommunications provider, has undertaken a substantial residential and business subscriber expansion of next-generation advanced services in the country with Airspan's WiMAX Products.

WiMax is now in Panama

Panama now has a new telcom player: Wipet's high speed state-of-the-art internet connection, WiMax.

WiMax is a wide network which provides for the wireless transmission of of data at high speeds. In contrast to Wi-Fi, this technology is mobile for metropolitan networks which allows it to offer residential and commercial services.

Digicel is awarded $1.9 million tender in Honduras

July 2008

The company was awarded the tender to offer low cost Wimax Internet services.

Wimax is a telecommunications technology that provides wireless high speed internet service, for desktop and laptop computers, as well as mobile phones.
The other competing companies were Celtel, Sercom, Lumelsa, Autoconsa and Axioma Empresarial.
