6% Increase in LA Coffee Exports

The combined exports of the group of nine countries in Latin America, rose by 6.18% in November compared to the same month in 2010.

According to the National Coffee Association, of the nine countries, El Salvador, Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Peru, Honduras, the Dominican Republic and El Salvador, four of them reported a decline. Colombia with 5.9%, Nicaragua 28.45%, Peru 3.08%, and the Dominican Republic 3.99%.

“However the rest of the producing nations achieved significant increases in comparison with November of last year: Costa Rica, 29.52%, El Salvador, 96.94%, Guatemala, 29.62%, Honduras 144.58%, and Mexico 71 , 59%.

Of the current crop, which began in October, the group of producing countries together have so far exported a total of 3,221,894 bags each weighing 60 kilos", reported Reuters.

Increased Sales of Quality Coffee

From October to December 2012, exports from the group of nine Latin American coffee producing countries, with the exception of Brazil, grew by 15.75%.

The National Coffee Association of Guatemala (Anacafe) said in a statement that their exports of quality coffee from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Colombia and Peru, joined the 6,135,414 60 kilo bags, in the quarter from October to December 2012.

Exports by the group coffee of nine countries in Latin America grew by 18.45% in the month of October compared to the same month in 2011.

According to the National Coffee Association of Guatemala (Anacafe) of the nine countries, El Salvador, Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Peru, Honduras, the Dominican Republic and El Salvador, two of them reported a fall, Colombia with 15.20% and Costa Rica with 17%.

In the first eight months of the current coffee harvest, Latin America’s 9 producing countries exported 10.8% less than the same period of the previous one.

In this period, Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Mexico and Peru sold 15.9 million sacks of 60kg, according to data from Guatemala’s Coffee Association (Anacafé).

In the last few weeks the price of coffee has fallen due to turbulence in the global financial markets and the producers in the region are worried about whether or not they will be able to cover the production cost and the harvest time.
