$27 million for Steel Plant in Guatemala

With an investment of $27 million, International Ternium has modernized and expanded its steel plant in Villa Nueva.

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

According to company president, Hector Obeso, "The challenge is that all Central American roofs be manufactured from sheet metal from Guatemala".

The modernization of the International Ternium will allow production capacity to increase by 35%. As explained by Obeso, it will be able to produce 160 thousand metric tons of sheet metal per year, equivalent to 70,000 linear kilometers.

"The aim of this growth is to strengthen the market for galvanized steel, but the executive complained that are facing problems with Chinese products entering the country, because they are competing unfairly due to subsidies which allow them to lower their prices and the quality varies", reported Prensalibre.com.

According to Javier Zepeda, executive director of the Chamber of Industry, the Federation of Central American Chambers and Industry Associations is preparing a report to present this anomaly to the World Trade Organization.
