$264 million Investment in Supermarkets

Walmart has announced that in the remainder of the year it will be investing in 25 new stores of various formats and remodeling others in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

From a statement issued by Walmart Mexico and Central America:

Walmart Mexico and Central America will be investing during 2015 about $264.7 million in the construction and remodeling of stores in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

The company plans to open 25 new stores in four formats: 3 Walmart stores (includes the first to be opened in Nicaragua); 10 Descuentos; 8 warehouses and four supermarkets. In addition, several units will be remodeled.

The new openings represent a growth of 5% of the floor sales in the region for 2015.

Investments in openings are distributed as follows:
Guatemala - $ 47.7 Million - 7 Despensas Familiares.
Honduras - $ 32 million - 1 Walmart store and 1 Despensa Familiar.
El Salvador - $ 38.3 Million - 1 Walmart store, 1 Despensa Familiar and 2 Maxi Despensas.
Nicaragua - $ 46.7 Million - 1 Walmart store and 3 Maxi Pali.
Costa Rica - $ 100 million - 4 Masxmenos, 3, Maxi Pali, 1 Pali.

* The openings are subject to obtaining permits.

Supermarket Chain to Prepare Investments

Walmart plans to invest $48 million in Guatemala during 2019, of which $25 million will be used to open new stores and remodel existing ones.

According to information provided by representatives of Walmart, the investment projected for this year in the country will double that invested in 2018, since last year the amount disbursed totaled $24 million.

El Salvador: Investment in New Supermarkets

Walmart El Salvador plans to invest $19 million this year in opening five new stores and remodelling others in different areas of the country.

The multinational chain said that the five new stores that will be ready this year correspond to the formats Maxi Despensa and Despensa Familiar. Regarding this first store format, two branches will be constructed, one in Soyapango and another in San Vicente.

More Investments by Walmart in Honduras

The supermarket chain has announced that it is preparing to open twelve new stores in 2016, including one in the Walmart format in Tegucigalpa, in which it plans to invest $12 million.

Currently the American supermarket chain Walmart operates 82 outlets in Honduras, and expects to close 2016 with at least 100 stores in four formats that it is currently operating. In the case of the larger format store, Walmart, Hernan Muntaner, vice president of Perishables and Agroindustrial Development for Walmart of Mexico and Central America, told Laprensa.hn that "... 'the project will be built in Tegucigalpa, with an estimated investment of 12 million dollars between land and construction'."

New Walmart Store in El Salvador

June 2012

With an investment of $6.8 million the multinational retailer will open a second store under the Maxi Despensa format in July.

In a 1,600 square meter area the works being carried out are now 70% complete.
"In terms of employment opportunities, on Monday June 4, Walmart held a job fair attended by about 3,000 people from Santa Ana, from these around 60 will be recruited for middle management positions, administration and operational areas as such as cashiers, sales, warehouse staff and others.
