$21 Million Awarded for Road Works

In Costa Rica, Puentes y Calzadas Grupo de Empresas was awarded the contract to build the new overpass at the La Bandera roundabout in the country's capital.

The construction of this work in La Bandera, which will involve 1100 meters in length, is scheduled to begin this year, if no appeals are filed, reported the Ministry of Public Works.

The official statement says that "... A four-lane (two per direction) overpass will be built at this point to ensure continuous traffic for users of the ring road, maintaining the current roundabout to provide access to nearby towns. The new overpass also includes an elevated access of 320 meters in front of the Law School of the University of Costa Rica, bays for buses, sidewalks, as well as the construction of a major box sewer in the Quebrada Los Negritos."

 The Minister of Public Works and Transport, Rodolfo Méndez Mata, explained that $21,127,000 will be invested in the work, coming from the loan with the Central American.

After multiple delays in the tender process, the Varela administration and the Panama Cuarto Puente Consortium, made up of China Communications Construction Company LTD and China Harbour Engineering Company LTD, signed the contract for the work in question in November 2018.

Award of Contract to Build Bridge Over Canal Ratified

After several appeals were filed in the tender to build a fourth bridge over the Panama Canal, confirmation has been given to the award of the contract to the Panama Cuarto Puente consortium, made up of Chinese companies.

The General Directorate of Public Procurement confirmed that the performance of the Ministry of Public Works during the adjudication process was correct, and ratified the decisions taken in the process of awarding the work. 

Costa Rica: $6 million Contracts for Bridges

In the final days of the Chinchilla administration, the usually slow Ministry of Public Works and the Conavi have accelerated the award of road projects.

The National Roads Authority (CONAVI) also awarded contracts for geometric designs, pavement designs and construction plans, as well as the proposed road signs and a budget for four sections of the National Route 1856, Juan Rafael Mora Porras, at a cost of $2.27 million (¢1.251 billion).
