$143 Million Investment in Roads Announced

In Guatemala, the government announced that plans to invest nearly $143 million this year in repairing and maintaining the country's road network.

According to representatives of the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV), among the investments projected stand out the maintenance and repair of bridges, signaling of vertical and horizontal routes, works of sealing of cracks, works of repair of the route CA-2 East and of the CA-2 West, and more works.

José Luis Benito, Minister of Communications told Dca.gob.gt that "... plans are ready for the rehabilitation of different routes throughout the national territory, which is part of the Government's strategic plans for the recovery of roads, which promotes development and gives a boost to competitiveness."

Benito added that "... the tender projects can be seen on the Guatecompras portal. These resources are managed through the Executing Unit of Road Conservation (Covial), which includes maintenance work of ground, paved network and repaves."

Road Work Awarded for $71 Million

Puentes y Calzadas Infraestructuras S.L.U. was awarded the contract to design and build a vehicular passage and road interchange on the Cabuya roundabout in the Panama province.

On February 5, the resolution of the contracting process for the "Design and Construction of the Paso Vehicular and Intercambiador Vial José Agustín Arango (Cabuya) -CPA- December 24" was published in the portal PanamaCompra."

Road Expansion Remains on Paper

The Guatemalan government will liquidate the works contract to extend 100 km of the CA2 East highway, which connects the department of Escuintla and the border with El Salvador.

The Ministry of Communications announced that this month they plan to liquidate the contract with Sigma Constructores, which had as objective to expand from two to four lanes the stretch of road that goes from Escuintla and ends at the border Ciudad Pedro de Alvarado, Jutiapa Department.

$31 million Reconstruction Works Announced

June 2018

Following the disasters caused by the Fuego Volcano in Guatemala, authorities stated that they will be investing $31 million to recover a 17-kilometer stretch of road.

Representatives from the Ministry of Communications, said that the works to renovate the highway section of the RN14 route, will have an approximate duration of 18 months.

Guatemala: Minister Announces Roadworks

December 2016

Consideration is being given to granting a concession for the stretch of 15 kilometers of the route from Libramiento to Chimaltenango, which would operate using tolls.

The Government is considering granting a concession to develop this stretch of the road and the company that wins the contract would manage the tolls. The 2017 road renovation plan submitted by the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing includes tendering the construction of several sections of road, for which $221 million is available.
