In 2012 the Arab country consumed more than eight million metric tons of coffee, 2.4% more than the previous year.

In the United Arab Emirates (UAE) more coffee was consumed than anywhere else in the Gulf, which registered an increase of 85% in the past three years, according to the latest statistics from the International Coffee Organization (ICO).
Canned tuna is preferred over presentations in glass or tetra pak containers, with increased demand reported in varieties of yellow and albacore tuna.

The consumption of canned tuna in the Middle East is concentrated in Kuwait, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, which depend entirely on imports, coming mainly from Thailand (86.4%), Italy (7.4%) and other Southeast Asian countries among these, the Philippines and Indonesia, with 6.6%.
An announcement has been made that Costa Rica is now authorized to export beef to the Arab country and negotiations are being held for the sanitation certificate for export, which will be ready in two months.

According to a letter from the Ministry of Environment and Water, of the United Arab Emirates, signed by Mohd Shammat Abdoun; Costa Rica is authorized to exportbeef to the country. The National Animal Health Service (SENASA) is negotiating with China the country the sanitation certificate for export, which is expected to be approved in about two months.
For the first six months of the year negotiations have been planned with Germany, the UAE and Hungary.

The Foreign Trade Promotion Office (PROCOMER) has opened a trade promotion office in Qatar. Alvaro Stone, director of Exports at the office, informed Nacion.com that an official has been based in the premises of the Embassy of Costa Rica in that country since late last year.
