A ruling has been made that Argentina violated international trade rules by imposing eight financial, fiscal and exchange measures against a group of countries, including Panama.
"... It was found that the measures relating to financial services violated obligations of Most Favoured Nation (MFN) under the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS), and other complaints made by Panama (DS 453) under the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) were dismissed, according to the report made by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development.
The Tourism Authority will no longer pay airlines as part of the strategy to attract new flights to the country, replacing the strategy with other financial support schemes.
Despite the proven success of the strategy to financially support international airlines so that they include Panama among their destinations, the Tourism administrator has announced that because the Comptroller "does not look favourably" on this promotion mechanism, they are evaluating others under which a better return on investment can be measured.
The FAO food price index rose slightly in March due to sharp increases in prices of sugar and palm oil.
From a press release by the Food and Agriculture Organization:
The FAO Food Price Index* (FFPI) averaged 151.0 points in March 2016, up 1.0 percent from February, but almost 21 points (12.0 percent) below its March 2015 level. The main feature last month was the strong rebound in sugar prices, which, combined with a further increase in vegetable oil quotations, more than offset a plunge in dairy values. International prices of the other commodities used in the calculation of the FFPI changed little.
