The new organization of producers seeks to guarantee certain competitiveness in the production and marketing of the potato in Costa Rica "to achieve a fair price, to supply the domestic market, and, thus, to protect the way of life of the farmers that are dedicated to cultivating this product in an environmental and socially sustainable way," as was quoted in an article by Ana Cristina Camacho Sandoval in Elfinancierocr.com.
The list is part of a report which refers to countries that are preferred by big companies from the US because of the advantages they obtain related to tax.
The article by Ana Cristina Camacho Sandoval published in the Elfinancierocr.com indicated that "In the report several criteria was used to define a tax haven: they are in jurisdictions where their subsidiaries are not required to pay taxes; where there is no exchange of tax information between the country in question and the United States and where there is a lack of transparency in the implementation of legislative, judicial and administrative regulations.
In Costa Rica there are just three marinas currently in operation and only six projects are still underway, while in 2007 there were 21 announced.
The reasons why 12 projects were cancelled are diverse but include the financial crisis, which dried up sources of credit, the general decline in tourism activity and investment, as well as the tedious and slow procedures for obtaining the permits required.

A smart combination of marketing, promotional packages, agreements with wholesalers, and good service has allowed some hotels to “be doing well.”
Generally, it is hotels with less than 40 rooms, which don’t depend on large flows of tourists, that are less seriously affected by the crisis in regards to securing a good clientele with occupancy levels above 80%.
