In a second tender created by the Panama Maritime Authority to grant the administration and operation of the yard in Balboa, four companies have participated.
The bidders are the same as in the first tender, with the only difference that MEC Shipyards (formerly MEC Dry Docks) has now partnered with the Kardonski group instead of IBT.
The four consortia submitted proposals in Sunday's second round of bidding for the best value tender by the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) to grant a concession for 20 years for the Balboa shipyard, located in the Pacific, reported Prensa.com.
The company will build two monobuoys that will be used by Petroterminales de Panama’s supertankers in their facilities in Bocas del Toro.
The first of the two structures weighing 45 tons each will be ready by mid-October.
"Monobuoys are used to stabilize oil tankers that cannot go as far as the dock where oil is received or sent due to lack of port depth", explained Prensa.com.
