Representatives from the Barú Free Zone presented the local municipality three projects to develop the area.
These include developing a free zone in the city of Port Armuelles, and a sea area to unload cargo vessels.
"Blanca de Garrido, Pre-Investment Secretary at the Economy Ministry, explained they are conducting studies to develop a number of mega projects in Barú, in order to reactivate the stagnant economy in said district", reported Panamanewsbriefs.com
The new administrator, Luis Muñoz, is planning new projects; one of them is the construction of a container port.
There are also plans for creating an area where commercial ships and touristic yachts could dock.
"Muñoz explained that the Free Zone has seen little development since its creation, so the main challenge its getting it up and running", reports Laestrella.com.pa.
