As of October 27, 2020, Lufthansa will begin operating a third weekly frequency between the German city and the capital of Costa Rica.
Thus, the airline, which currently offers two flights per week on Thursdays and Saturdays, will also fly on Tuesdays round trip between the German destination and San Jose, Costa Rica, reported the Costa Rica Tourism Board (ICT).
Lufthansa has been announced that from November 3 it will add an additional frequency to its air route between Tocumen International Airport and the German city.
With this new frequency the Lufthansa airline will run six flights a week between Panama City and the city of Frankfurt.
Felipe Bonifatti, general manager of the Lufthansa Group's airlines for Central America and the Caribbean, told Laestrella.com.pa that "...'Since the launch of the route, two years ago, we have seen a growth in demand not only from the business sector, but also from leisure travelers interested in flying to Europe and beyond'."
Lufthansa has announced that from March 2018 it will start operating two flights per week between Juan Santamaría International Airport and the German city of Frankfurt.
Flights to San Jose will take place on an Airbus A340-300, which has 279 seats that cover Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class. Flight LH518 departs from the Lufthansa Frankfurt hub at 13:45 and arrives in San José late in the afternoon at 5:55 pm local time.The return flight departs from San Jose in the afternoon at 7:50 p.m. and lands at Frankfurt Airport the following day at 3:10 p.m. with a flight time of approximately 11 hours.
Through an agreement valued at $4 million, the German airline will promote Panama for three years as a destination for European tourists.

October 18, 2016.The Government of the Republic of Panama, through the Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP) and the German airline Lufthansa today finalized an agreement to promote tourism in the amount of B / .4 million, for a period of three years, it will seek to increase the volume of air traffic between Europe and Panama, encouraging travelers to take Lufthansa flights and discover Panama's tourist destinations.
Four months after the scheduled date, the German airline Lufthansa has made the first of five flights a week which it will operate from the airport of Tocumen.

Lufthansa commenced its new non-stop service between Frankfurt and Panama City today. Flight LH 484 departed from Frankfurt (FRA) at 10:15 local time, and is scheduled to arrive at the Aeropuerto Internacional de Tocumen in Panama City (PTY) at 16:40 local time this afternoon. Eastbound flight LH 485 will leave Panama City at 18:45 local time this evening, and is due to land in Frankfurt at 11:35 local time tomorrow (3 March). Lufthansa will be operating a five-times-weekly service on the new route all year round.
The main airport in Panama saw an increase of 7% in the number of travelers passing through its facilities in January 2016 compared to the same month last year.

Panama, February 24, 2016. Tocumen International Airport closed January 2016 with the historical figure of 1,305,276 passengers, representing 85,615 additional users compared to the same month in 2015, reflecting a growth of 7%.
The Tourism Authority has announced that it will be negotiating with Alitalia and Emirates Airlines to establish flights from Rome and the United Arab Emirates, and will seek to increase the flights with Iberia and Air France.
As part of these projects to increase air connectivity in the country, the Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP) is also expected to start operations soon with Aeromexico and Lufthansa.
The German airline has announced it will be ready to start operating direct flights to Panama City starting January 2015.
Adding to the interest of other European airlines and responding to the increasing number of German tourists entering Panama, Lufthansa has notified the Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP ) that it is able to start direct flights to Tocumen airport in January 2015 and is looking to finalize the respective agreement under process.
Seven airlines in Asia, Europe and the UAE are discussing starting direct flights to Panama because of its facilities as a connection center for Latin America.
The most advanced negotiations are with Lufthansa and British Airways, said the manager of Tocumen S.A., Juan Carlos Pino.
"Meanwhile, Asian airlines that are already exploring mounting a hub in Panama are, Korean Air from Korea, and Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong , Singapore Airlines and EVA Airways from Taiwan", noted an article in Panamaamerica.com.pa.
The agreement applies to flights between Frankfurt (Germany) and El Salvador via Miami, and Frankfurt and Lima (Peru) via Caracas.
With a single ticket from Lufthansa, passengers can fly TACA segments and access the TACA route network in both hubs also benefiting from the frequent flyer programs of both airlines.
