The Panamanian Ministry of the Environment has hired a consultant to assess the risks and costs of the choice of route for the transmission line proposed by the binational company Interconexión Eléctrica Colombia Panamá.
The Ministry hired an international consulting firm to undertake the analysis of costs and risks of the proposal submitted by Interconexión Eléctrica Colombia Panamá (ICP), which was already approved by Colombia and only requires approval from Panama before it can go ahead.

With the operation of four new substations it is expected that by January 2015 the electricity service will cover 90% of the country.

President Otto Perez Molina has ratified his support for investors in order to achieve the goal of full coverage of electricity services nationwide. On a working visit to the town of San Agustin, in the Department of El Progreso on Friday, the president led the opening ceremony of four substations in the Expansion Plan of the Transmission System Energy (PET).
With a bank loan the company Transportadora de Energía de Centroamérica will complete the expansion of the electricity transport system in the country.
The Guatemalan subsidiary of Grupo de Energia de Bogota, will use the funds to complete the project investing in energy transport, which is to build and launch more than 850 kilometers of transmission lines and 12 new high voltage substations, as well expansion of 12 existing substations.
An announcement has been made that the conditions for the tender for 574 kilometers of power lines will be released on July 31.
The work comprises of "... 29 new substations, expansion of 25 new lines and more than 12 adaptations, establishing 574 kilometers of electricity transmission, divided into 5 lots covering the national territory."
