The regulatory agency has authorized the company Hidroxil to use the rivers Xamalá and Sumalá in Quiche to install a hydroelectric plant.
Located in the municipality of Santa María Nebaj, the Vega II hydroelectric project will have a total installed capacity of 18.75 megawatts.

The hydroelectric project, La Vega I, in its first stage will generate 38 megawatts.
"According to the Ministerial Agreement 099-2011 published yesterday in the official gazette, the entity Hidroxil may use the flow from the two rivers for a period of 50 years.
