In Costa Rica, the cooperative Coopeleche increased by 25% the volume of raw material sold to the Mexican Lala, a rise that would be explained by the better positioning of the company in the local market.
In general, volumes produced have increased, since official figures detail that between 2017 and 2018, milk production in Costa Rica grew by 1.5%, going from 1.14 million to 1.16 million tons.
The Mexican company has acquired a dairy production plant in Alajuela and through an agreement with Florida Bebidas will produce and market its products in the country.
The announcement comes days after Nicaraguan authorities blocked entry of Costa Rican dairy products, after Costa Rica denied a permit to the firm Lala to export products from Nicaragua.
After buying a dairy cooperativas, Florida Bebidas has launched its brand of milk Mu!, and also will be competing in sour cream, ice cream, yogurt and cream.
The new products will be launched next Monday. The milk product Mu! will be offered in two forms, in a long life plastic bag and in Tetra Brik.
The director of the Division of Florida Dairy Drinks and Beverages, Rafael Segovia, told Nacion.com "that the products will be launched on the market with a price which is 5% lower than the leading brand. However he did not refer to its objectives in terms of market size or goals in that sense in the short or medium term ... he classified the Florida’s dairy section as small and emphasized that they sell high quality products, ... "
Coopeleche has signed an agreement with Florida Bebidas who will manage its plant in Alajuela, Costa Rica, and distribute its entire product line.
The company Florida Bebidas has signed a strategic partnership with la Cooperativa Agropecuaria Regional de Productores de Leche (Coopeleche RL) located in San Ramon de Alajuela.
Florida will take over the production and distribution for the dairy cooperative, occupying the plant in San Ramón de Alajuela, reported Elfinancierocr.com.
