A plant is to be installed in Colon that will have initial capacity to extract approximately 90 thousand tons of oil per year.
Producers from the sector of Sheba, in the Caribbean department of Colón, are to invest $15.7 million in the installation of an oil palm extraction plant, projecting an approximate annual income of 4.2 million.
"A representative from the area, Edwin Rodriguez, said that the installed plant will start operations between July and August 2015 with support from the Government, entrepreneurs and equity from the farmers who are spearheading the project."
The government will have to pay $35 million to the company OAS for breach of contract in the award of the construction of the road from San Ramon to San José.
The payment will be made in March 2014 with funding from the National Concessions Council and the budget allocated to that entity for the coming year, said Roberto Gallardo, Minister of Planning and member of the National Council of Concessions.
The Brazilian construction company OAS is suing for $45 million over the signing of a highway concession contract, which was overturned by President Chinchilla.

The construction company, who bought the concession from the company that was originally awarded it, has asked Costa Rica for $33.9 million to cover what it originally paid the company and others plus $11.1 million for expenses, to finalize the concession road to San Ramon.
In Costa Rica the Brazilian company OAS has six months to find someone to pay more than $500 million for a project that has been opposed by 90% of the population.
According to Edwin Rodriguez, technical secretary of the National Concessions Council (CNC), the Brazilian company OAS is negotiating with international banks for the resources to fund the project.
The government intends to give priority to a new bridge on the main road linking the capital with the Juan Santamaria Airport, to be built by the current contractor for the expansion of that road.
