The Electricity Regulatory Commission is preparing the documents to tender a supply of firm power, a few months before the current contracts expire.
Although the contracts with private suppliers that are about to expire add up to a total of 300 MW, representatives from the Electricity Regulatory Commission (CREE) explained that the tender will not necessarily be for the same amount.
In the coming weeks an international tender will be launched to provide firm capacity and associated energy in order to meet demand in 2017.
Authorities at the Energy Regulatory Commission of Honduras (CREE) explained that it has not yet been defined how many MW will be in the tender, but "... in the electrical industry they are working on it being 180 MW in order to meet demand in 2017", reported Laprensa.hn.
The Empresa Nacional de Energía Eléctrica (ENEE) has been transformed into a corporation and will be parcelled off into separate companies for generation, transmission and system operation, and distribution.
The Honduran Congress recently passed the General Law on the Electricity Industry, and with it ended the monopoly exercised by the Empresa Nacional de Energía Eléctrica (ENEE).
