The Honduran Institute for the Agricultural Market has announced that to in order ensure a food reserve, it will purchase staple grains from local producers.
The procurement process will begin from September 15 in the Department of Olancho.
Carlos Giron, manager of the Honduran Institute for the Agricultural Market (IHMA),"requested that producers in the region bring their harvest to a collection center which will be opened in the town of San Francisco de la Paz, where he said, farmers will be paid rates above those offered by intermediaries", reported Proceso.hn
Up to 30% of the first harvest of beans in Honduras was funded in El Salvador.
Luis Donaire, president of PROGRANO, commented that the producers are returning to get financing from El Salvador, a situation attributed to lack of funding from the Honduran government institutions such as the National Bank for Agricultural Development.
This harvest is expected to yield about 600,000 quintals, or 30% of domestic demand.
