In 2015 the region as a whole bought $454 million in baked products, confectionery and biscuits, corresponding to 214,640 tons.
Figures on Foreign Trade in Baked Products, Confectionery and Biscuits in Central America, analyzed by the Business Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData.com report that in 2015 Honduras led imports with $105 million, followed by Guatemala with $99 million, Panama with $76 million, Costa Rica with $66 million, Nicaragua with $58 million, and El Salvador, with $49 million.
On August 1 the trade agreement between Colombia and Costa Rica come into effect. The agreement states that 75% of industrial goods will become duty-free immediately, and the other products within 5 to 15 years.
There is potential in the Colombian market for exporters of pasta, snacks, biscuits and gravy, through strategic partnerships with supermarket chains.

San Jose, February 22, 2016. Building partnerships with supermarket chains represents an option for Costa Rican exporters of food products such as pasta, snacks, biscuits and gravy, to gain admission to that market.
In the last two years Guatemala has doubled its exports of biscuits, sweets, chewing gum, confectionery, and preparations for soup and drinks going to the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.
In the first half of this year sales by the food industry to Caribbean countries topped $20 billion, $13 billion more than in the same period in 2013.
Companies participating in the SIAL show in Paris made purchase offer deals worth more than $1 million and generated new markets in Europe and South America for products such as chia, crackers and organic cocoa.
The event was attended by a delegation of 12 member from companies in the Association of Producers and Exporters of Nicaragua (APEN), and succeeded in opening new markets for non-traditional products and increase their knowledge of the European market for future business deals.
