Canadian Bank Note was awarded the bid for the manufacture of new Q5 polymer notes.
The company was selected from a total of ten which participated.
Jorge Caceres, director of the Monetary Emission Department at Banguat told Prensalibre.com, "The delivery of bills will take place during the first half of next year and is expected to go into circulation in late 2011".
On this week, the Central Bank of Guatemala will introduce new Q5 bills ($0.63).
“The new 5 quetzal bill features 6 security mechanisms: high registry triplex in the symbol bird; coincident Guatemalan flag on both sides and a security background on the entire surface, on both sides”, reported Prensalibre.com.
The Monetary Board approved the emission of Q200 Bills (24.88 dollars at today's exchange rate) which would go into circulation later this year.
Julio Roberto Suarez, vice president of the Bank of Guatemala (Banguat), informed PrensaLibre.com: "The Banguat will get the price quotes and it will conduct the international bidding with the currency manufacturers that supply the region in June."
