There will be a batch of 40 MW generated by wind power and the remaining 60 MW through solar generation.
From a press release from the Superintendency of Electricity and Telecommunications (SIGET):
The electricity distribution companies through DELSUR, the Superintendency of Electricity and Telecommunications (SIGET) and the National Energy Council (CNE) announced the launch of a new bidding process aimed at electricity generation projects of 100 MW, based on non-conventional renewable resources and exclusive participation in the wholesale market.
With a $ 100 million investment, the Termopuerto thermal plant will become operational in June.
The power manager of the Superintendence of Electricity and Telecommunications (Siget), Geovanni Hernandez, explained that they still have to build a transmission line linking the plant with a sub-station in Acajutla.
The publication by Elslavador.com adds, "The project was built in an area of 12.732 square meters in a land of 60 thousand square meters and, in addition to the engine room, there is another two-story building, home to workshops, control room and meeting rooms. It also contains a 1.000 m2 substation with power transformers, emergency power plants and other electric equipment."
With an investment of $950 million, the company Cutuco Energy will initiate construction of the La Unión plant in the second half of 2011.
The construction works will generate around 1,000 jobs.
According to the Cutuco's shareholders, the plant will start producing energy from 2015.
"For building to begin it just remains to get the relevant licenses from the Economy and Public Works Ministries as well as register with the local La Unión authorities," reports Elsalvador.com.
Cutuco Energy plans to begin construction of the gas plant in La Unión during the first six months of 2011.
Valued at $950 million, Cutuco Energy’s project includes a liquid natural gas center, an electric generation plant, and two energy transmission lines.
An article from Laprensagrafica.com: “’The project is still moving forward…we hope to begin operations during the second half of 2014,’ said Irene López, vice-president of the company.
