The government of Costa Rica has announced that it is working on a tender to be launched in early 2017 for the construction of a 25 thousand square meter aquatic center and a 36,000 meter sports center in San Jose.

SAN JOSE, CR / TAMPA Fla (June 16, 2016) -. IRONMAN today announced the addition of a new official race in Central America, Ironman 70.3® Costa Rica.The inaugural event will take place on Sunday June 18, 2017, in Playa del Coco, Guanacaste, located on the Pacific Coast.
With the endorsement of the contract the companies Constructora Pirenaica and Grupmas Constructors will be able to start construction of the park in Chilibre, Panama Norte.
The park to be built in Chilibre, Panama Norte consists of a circle of 20 hectares which will have a center for municipal services, a sports complex, family recreation areas, retail markets, kindergartens and permaculture demonstration gardens, an arts and crafts school, green areas and areas for recreation, cultural events, sports and educational programs.
It is estimated that foreigners visiting the country to practice this sport stay an average of 17 days and spend $122 a day.
Ranking as the third best surfing destination in the world after Hawaii and Indonesia, Costa Rica attracts an average of 400,000 foreign surfers every year. The sporting conditions on offer at the beaches have been exploited by tourism companies, which together with the authorities carry out promotions internationally in order to promote this niche tourism market.
The aim is to attract tourists through means of hosting international surfing tournaments, an activity which moves more than 35 million people worldwide.
Lucy Valenti, chief executive of the tourism company Turismo e Inversiones S.A.SA states that "there is a decision to support the implementation of international tournaments which are putting Nicaragua on the world surfing map". Currently, Alas Tour Classic 2013 is taking place in the country.
Both governments have agreed to build a baseball stadium for 30,000 spectators with an investment of $30 million from Taiwan plus another $5 million from Nicaragua.
"This week the honourable Ambassador of China Taiwan in Nicaragua, Ingrid Hsing and me will be signing the draft, which sets out additional conditions to the memorandum of understanding signed between the Foreign Minister of Nicaragua and the Taiwanese Chancellor," said Marlos Torres, director of the Nicaraguan Institute of Sports (IND).
Between April 2012 and March 2013, surfing generated revenues of $20 million for the tourism sector, which is twice what the country received five years ago.
Elsalvador.com reports that "according to a study funded by the program All Invest and developed by Grupo Amate in coordination with the Corporation of Exporters of El Salvador (Coexport), the sport has boosted tourism and investment in the approximately 200 kilometers of Salvadoran coast between the beaches Las Flores and Mizata ".
The advantages offered by the country for more than 20 million surfers worldwide, makes the sport as a key ingredient in tourism development.
