Three tenders worth $70 million to build 68 schools in Ngäbe Bugle and Veraguas have been declared void and it has been announced that they will be tendered again before October.
Reference prices not consistent with market prices and the location of the schools appear to be the reasons why no construction companies expressed interest in the tender adapt 68 schools located in the districts of Mironó and Besiko in Ngäbe Bugle and in Cañazas, Veraguas.

The Inter-American Development Bank has approved a loan of $70 million to provide innovative infrastructure to 47 communities in Panama, benefiting more than 38,000 students. The goal is to expand educational opportunities and encourage students in marginal areas and indigenous students to complete their basic education.
The Ministry of Education (MINED) is invites bids for a tenders for the rehabilitation, improvement and expansion of three schools.
The tender aims to improve the infrastructure of a selected group of schools, in order to increase access and quality education with equity criteria at national level, prioritizing rural and urban areas which have deficits .
The program has already delivered 400 computers to children in rural areas, and it plans to reach 800.000 during the next four years.
The initiative, known as “Closing the Knowledge Gap” (“Cerrando La Brecha del Conocimiento” in Spanish), will require a total investment of $246.2 million, and is intended for low income schools with low academic performance.
