El Salvador is getting ready to close the 2007-2008 coffee season with the best figure of the last quinquennium in terms of export volume and income earnings.
Ricardo Espitia, Executive Director of the Salvadoran Coffee Council (CSC), indicated that at the close of the current season (2007-2008) on September 30, there will be a very positive increase in all indicators, that is, "after a cycle of low production and, by extension, exports." He also believes that the increase shows that coffee continues to be a drink "that has not gone out of style and that is liked more and more."
El Salvador's coffee producers hope to open new markets in Europe for high-quality coffee under the trade association now under negotiation between Brussels and Central America.
"The association agreement is a major market opportunity for our coffee. Germany is already a customer but we want to expand sales to other European nations too," said Ricardo Espitia, executive director of the Salvadoran Coffee Council.
