Economic, political and public opinion factors seem to be lining up together making the new tram project for the capital San Jose have a good chance of coming to fruition.
The promoter of the project Johnny Araya, City Mayor elected for the period 2016-2020, who had previously headed the commune between 1998 and 2013, garnering, despite numerous allegations of irregularities in his management, a popularity that led him to run as president of the Republic in elections which he lost decisively against the current president Luis Guillermo Solis.In 2016 Araya was again elected mayor of San Jose, favored by the popular vote which sees him as one of the few Costa Rican professional politicians with executive management capabilities.
The demand for housing solutions and commercial spaces in downtown San Jose has led the cost of land per square meter to rise to $1,200.
Nacion.com reports: "Mata Redonda, Merced, Catedral, Hospital and El Carmen have in the last three years represented half of the total square meters (sqm) for which there are applications for building permits. In this area, construction of houses and stores has the most dynamism ... ".
The Controller has endorsed a proposal to create street names in the city of San Jose.
The initiative includes the installation of 16,000 name plates throughout the canton bearing the number of the street and avenue, which will be attached to facades or on poles, said Mayor Johnny Araya.
Real estate developers are betting that they can transform the capital city into the newest center for investment in the nation.
The plan to give San Jose a new face and make it a new investment center has convinced construction companies and project developers alike to get on board.
The proposal was strengthened by the recommendations included in the framework of the National Construction Congress, which took place June 4-6.
