The chain of fast food restaurants Quiznos, operating since 2004 with twelve outlets, has closed its operations.
The union of restaurants in Guatemala confirmed the closure of the chain of US origin, which in March 2014 began the process of acceding to Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Salvador Contreras, union representative, told Elperiodico.com.gt that "... officially no reason for the closure is known or if there is an operation with firms that are replacing the brand."
Together with Salvadoran company "Corporación Pirámide" the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) has opened its second store in Guatemala City.
Since opening its first restaurant 10 months ago, the KFC chain has invested more than $2.4 million in Guatemala.
Liz de Ávila, general manager of KFC Guatemala, told Prensalibre.com that, "no further openings are planned at the moment pending the brand's acceptance by the public".
KFC returns to the country after 30 years, under the administration of Salvadoran company "Corporación Pirámide".

QSR International is betting on the franchise model to expand Quiznos and Teriyaki restaurants in Central America.
The master franchisor for both brands in Central America and the Caribbean, QSR International, announced its plans to expand through the region by franchising its restaurants.
Pablo Fernández, QSR franchise expansion manager, explained that "the company, who also operates KFC in Costa Rica, opted for this model to grow faster", according to Elfinancierocr.com.
