In Costa Rica an investigation has been launched against the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service Company of Heredia for anticompetitive practices in the market of digital technologies.
On October 30th and 31st companies from the sector will gather together in San Jose to discuss issues such as internet governance, mobility and telecom investment.

With the participation of over 120 exhibitors and more than 100 policy makers, business leaders, technology providers and specialists solutions, the sixth version of BIZ FIT PANAMA will be held, a Meeting on Innovation and Technology for the country's most important businesses, which will take place from 21 to 23 October 2014, at the Atlapa Convention Center.
Panama is the only country in the region which has improved considerably in the use of information technology in the last year.
Investments in the field of information technology have resulted in more and better use of these IT services in Panama, which has improved its overall position in the use of technology, according to the Information Technology 2014 report, prepared by the World Economic Forum World.
Government investment in infrastructure for information and communication technology lays the foundation for growth in the sector.
A study by Oxford Business Group has analyzed the impact that public investment has had on the sector of information and communication technologies, prompting the arrival of international companies who want to exploit the potential of the sector but encounter barriers, such as a shortage of skilled labor.
The speed with which the Panamanian economy is developing is demanding skilled labour which, at the moment, the country is unable to supply.
The lack of qualified people in the areas of technology, software development and telecommunications is one of the challenges facing Panama as a consequence of its economic growth.
An article in Revistaitnow.com explains that "the IT sector in Panama consists mainly of the segments of software development, telecommunications, specialized services such as call centers and data centers which rely on the competitive advantages that the country has, but that does not mean that it can develop them alone. "
Investments by Panama are resulting in it being positioned next to Chile in the 2013 Information Technology ranking by the World Economic Forum.
The availability of free internet nationwide in 'infoplazas', the provision of computers with Internet access to schools and the implementation of e-government, has allowed Panama to advance its use of new technologies in Latin America.

MINEC seeks to position El Salvador as a source of technological development
The Ministry of Economy, through the Directorate of Productive Chains, is aiming to position El Salvador as a source of technological development, since there is a growing demand for value-added services, both nationally and internationally, contributing to the growth of the aggregate supply in the field of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs).
The aim of the event, by Proesa, is to facilitate international contacts for young Salvadoran entrepreneurs from the sector and is expected to have 100 participants.
The international export services event, focussing on software, will be held on May 24th and is being organized by the investment promotion agency Proesa.
"We have identified several companies in the country, especially of young entrepreneurs who are engaging in this activity and we think we should give them the opportunity to connect with such people worldwide," said Geovanni Berti, executive director of Proesa to Elmundo.com.sv.
Top of the list in the region is Panama (57 in the world), followed by Costa Rica (58), Guatemala (98), Honduras (99), El Salvador (103) and Nicaragua (131).
The Global Information and Communication Technologies Report 2012 is prepared by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in collaboration with INSEAD Business School. It has been published since 2001 and covers 142 countries.
