Hortifruti, an affiliate to Wal-Mart Central America, certified the quality of Honduran fruit and vegetable producers.
The certification project—implemented by Wal-Mart Central America’s “Tierra Fértil” program and the “Eda de la Cuenta del MilenioHonduras” program—endeavors to offer technical training to farmers and to implement best practices throughout business activities. On this occasion, eight producers were certified.
Producers will have technical assistance with fruit-growing, guaranteeing them the sale of their harvest.
Agustin Calderon, Director of the Project Coordinating Office from the Ministry of Agriculture, and who witnessed the signing of the agreement, said that this type of accord favors producers, since it cuts out intermediaries, who in the end are usually the ones to get the best earnings from the efforts of farmers.
