The Costa Rican Social Security Fund has reported that it will be investing $16 million in the purchase of a new property and $43 million in the remodeling of its main office building in San José.
The works for the design and construction of structural reinforcements and mechanical, electrical and architectural reconditioning of the Laureano Echandi Building, Caja Costarricense Social Security (CCSS) central offices, were awarded last June to Consorcio Edificar-Molina-Guidi for an amount of $43 million.
Through a trust with the Bank of Costa Rica, plans are underway to build 30 health areas, 22 financial branches and a storage center for supplies and medicines.
Among the projects that will be built with the resources to be administered by the Bank of Costa Rica through the trust is the William Allen hospital in Turrialba, whosetenderwas announced recently.
In the next five years the Costa Rican Social Security Institution plans to invest about $1.8 billion in building new infrastructure and purchase of medical equipment.

An environmental impact study has been submitted for the construction and equipping of a new site for the health department in Naranjo, Alajuela province.
The environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the project was presented in June by the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) to the National Environmental Technical Secretariat.
The work which the CCSS intends to carry out consists of the construction and equipping of a new site for the health department in Naranjo. The building will have three levels, and will include comprehensive services of dentistry, emergency, management and others. The net area of the project is 10,200 square meters.
The government is negotiating with the World Bank to obtain financing for the construction of new hospitals in Golfito, Turrialba and Cartago.
A World Bank (WB) mission will be visiting the country next week to negotiate technical aspects of the financing, however, because it is public debt, the loan must be approved by the Legislature. It is expected that between July and August the bill will be sent for discussion and approval.

The Costa Rican Social Security department will be receiving bids in January for the construction of a hospital emergency room in Perez Zeledon.
Next year the Costa Rican Social Security Department (CCSS by its initials in Spanish) will invest $14 million in a new emergency and tomography room at the Fernando Escalante Pradilla Hospital.
The purchase of the tomography scanner has already been awarded and the tender for the emergency room, which will have a value of $12 million, will be held in January.
The Social Security Department has awarded the construction of a hospital tower for the Nicoya Hospital and the construction of a Health Area at Mora-Palmichal.
The cost for the construction of the hospital tower for Hospital de La Anexión in Nicoya, which is expected to begin in late 2013 or early 2014, is $38 million, while construction and equipment of the site of the Health Area at Mora-Palmichal will have an investment of $12 million.
With an investment of about $36 million, the Social Security Department will be putting out to tender later this year the construction of an Oncology Tower at Hospital Calderon Guardia.
The hospital's director, Dr. Luis Paulino Hernández, told La Prensa Libre, "We are thinking of having five floors, the idea is that we will move the staff we have now and strengthen the hospital with other positions in medical, nursing, nutrition, cleaning and security areas, we will have 60 beds".
