The Administrative Committee of the brand "Essential Costa Rica" will authorize its use according to the recommendations of trained analysts at the Institute of Technical Standards.
The Institute of Technical Standards of Costa Rica (Inteco) will be the body which will train staff who will be able to use the national brand of Costa Rica. "... they will analyze the requirements to be met by the company and give recommendations to the country brand management committee, who will ultimately decide whether to grant or deny the request for the license", reported Nacion.com.
A drop in productivity from 30 to 23 quintals per hectare in coffee plantations in Costa Rica has made it difficult to fulfil the total current demand from buyers like Starbucks.

The cooperative announced it has achieved carbon neutral certification for green and roasted coffee.
Coopedota, a cooperative of 800 farmers from the Santa Maria de Dota valley in Costa Rica, certified their coffee under British Standards rule of certification PAS2060 in order to demonstrate carbon neutrality.
