This week in Guatemala negotiators from Central America will define the new proposal that they will present at the next round of negotiations in Brussels.
Elconomista.es reports "that the Guatemalan Foreign Minister, Alfredo Trinidad, commented that of the three pillars of the negotiations: commercial, political and cooperation, they hope to make the most progress with the second.
The Government of Germany promised to help with $73 million for development project, doubling the current amount for assistance.
"As a result of the meeting, the Government of Germany will support the Government of Guatemala with a significant increase in its financial and technical cooperation, for a total of 58 million Euros (some $73 million) for a period of three years," said the report from the Guatemalan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The V Round of negotiations between Central America and the EU, will be held in the Guatemalan capital from October 6-10 and the main topic will be trade, an official source reported yesterday.
The vice minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Alfredo Trinidad, said that "even though they did not complete 90% of the trade proposal, they managed to finish 85% as was requested by the EU and this gives us enough room for negotiations."
The date to start the negotiation process for a Free Association Agreement between both regions will be September 9 and 10 in Brasilia.
The Guatemalan vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, Alfredo Trinidad, pointed out that there is "an interest in the (Central American) region that the negotiation between SICA and MERCOSUR not be just another Free Trade Agreement, but a more integral agreement that contemplates other types of alliances.
