From December 22 the airline AirTransat will fly once a week between the Canadian city of Montreal and San Salvador.
From a statement issued by the Ministry of Economy of El Salvador:
Representatives of Hotel Leones Marinos, Atami, Hotel Bahia del Sol and Decameron Hotels promoted their offer of specialized services in the country at the international exhibition on Tourism and Travel.
It has been announced that the Canadian airline Air Transat made 28 flights from Montreal and Toronto between December 2016 and March 2017.
The Nicaraguan Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC) told Elnuevodiario.com.ni that"... flights will start arriving from 19 December and will continue until March 2017. Tourists will mainly vacation in a beach hotel on the Nicaraguan Pacific."
A 10% increase is projected in the number of Canadian tourists visiting El Salvador when the agreement between the governments becomes official.
During the six month long winter season from December to May, about 16 million Canadians leave their country in search of warm destinations in the Caribbean and Central America, and on average, about 25,000 of them come to El Salvador. Moreover, an estimated 160,000 Salvadorans are living in Canada. The agreement would open opportunities enabling better communication and more trade opportunities between the two markets.
Tourism officials, in the framework of the event Routes, have had meetings with airline companies considering new flights to the country.
Laprensagrafica.com publishes: "The majority of the airlines with whom talks have begun operate under the charter model," Minister Rochi said. Among these are: Air Transat, which at present operates a charter from Canada, and that "spoke of the possibility of expanding operations in El Salvador," noted Rochi. Spirit Airlines, which had already made previous plans to come to the country, would be interested in taking up the proposal again, since, according to the Minister of Tourism, "El Salvador continues being in its plans of expansion."
Canada's Transport Minister, John Baird, today announced the designation of Air Transat to operate twice weekly scheduled flights between Canada and Panama, and WestJet to operate scheduled flights between Canada and Panama on a weekly basis.
