From February 7th to 20th a delegation of Taiwanese businessmen will be visiting the two countries to evaluate and buy coffee, and take part in business meetings with local coffee growers.
As part of the Taiwan Coffee Mission 2017, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Trade Office for Central America in Taipei, entrepreneurs will visit farms, take part in tastings and hold business meetings with local producers.

The new regulations will come into force in July 2017 and state that pesticide registrations can be renewed for equal consecutive periods of ten years and must be processed in the six months prior to their expiration.

An initial estimate of global coffee production in 2016/17 suggests that the world total will remain relatively stable, up 0.1% to 151.6 million bags. Arabica production is potentially set for a record level of 93.5 million bags with bumper crops expected from Brazil, Colombia and Honduras. Prospects for Robusta supply, on the other hand, are less positive, with lower crops expected from most major origins. Prices on the futures markets have reflected these developments recently, with Robusta prices generally showing support and Arabica under pressure, leading to a narrowing in the arbitrage between the two.
The dynamism in agricultural activities and insufficient local supply explain the 40% increase registered between January and October 2016 compared to the same period in 2015.
Between January and October 2016 the import of seeds for sowing grew by 40% compared to the same period in 2015.According to data from the Central Bank of Nicaragua, between January and October 2016, 816.6 tons of seeds for sowing were imported, while in the same period last year the amount was 580.4 tons.
It has been estimated that in 2017 the sector producing and selling agricultural chemicals will achieve a performance similar to that of 2016, having ended the year with growth of 15% in sales.

For the fifth time the Varela administration has extended the measure regulating the maximum prices of retail of 22 products in the basic basket, until July this year.

The national government has extended, starting from January 7 2017, the temporary regulation of maximum prices for sales of 22 products in the basic food basket (CBA by its initials in Spanish) known as price controls, taking into consideration the positive results from the immediate reduction of CBA costs, giving Panamanians greater access to necessities.
For the sixth time since 2013 a six month extension has been granted to the suspension on the levying of fines on companies that hire undocumented foreign labor for activities such as agricultural harvesting.
The government announced that in January 2017 it issued a new extension to avoid levying fines on companies in the agricultural sector that employ undocumented foreign workers during the harvest season.

January 1, saw the coming into force of a trade agreement between the two countries, which states that approximately 81% of Peruvian exports to Honduras will enter with immediate access or a maximum of 5 years, benefiting Peruvian products such as asparagus, mandarin oranges, artichokes , grapes, pineapples, mangoes, avocados, quinoa, amaranth, cañihua, paprika, coffee, giant Cusco corn, and purple and lemon corn, among others.
